'Here's to Us' by Albertalli and Silvera

*Disclaimer* Spoilers for the first book of the duology, 'What If It's Us'

I wasn’t a huge fan of “What if it’s us”, but since it was the first book I ever reviewed on this blog I felt obligated to read the sequel. And, I am so glad that I did.

My biggest peeves with the first book were the “insta-love” & lack of chemistry between Arthur & Ben. Which was why I loved the ending in which they don’t stay together so much and feared that I wouldn’t enjoy a sequel in which they most likely would rekindle their romance. However, thankfully, I had nothing to fear! I don’t know if it’s because I have been in a romcom mood lately, but I found “Here’s to Us” to be incredibly fun and cute.

Besides the funny & cute moments, “Here’s to Us” also does a great job connecting the stories of the MCs with the first book, while also showing how much they have grown. Arthur is more independent & doesn’t put his relationship over his own dreams, but he also still ignores warning signs in the hopes of obtaining his pink rose happy ending. On the other hand, Ben is less pessimistic & has allowed himself to dream, but still has some self-worth issues…and he still fools himself into new relationships while obsessed with his ex 😅 However, even though at their core they’re still the same, the way the book portrays them showcases their growth. And I loved that!

The relationship between the MCs has also grown from the “insta-love” shown in the first book. I was so glad that we got to see their love for each other not only as potential romantic partners, but as friends. I would have wanted a little bit more development in this area, but what we got was still enough to make me finally ship them!

Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the first one & is in a mood for a light cute romance. It’s a fun ride!
