'The Godparent Trap' by Rachel Van Dyken

'The Godparent Trap' by Rachel Van Dyken is a subpar book version of the already bad reviewed movie 'Life as we know it'.

Without taking into account its weird and unnecessary prologue, the first few chapters of this book set the setting for an interesting and cute story. I sympathized with the FMC's, Colby, feelings of inadequacy and her frustration at the MMC's, Rip, lack of understanding of her struggles as a stay at home mother. But I also understood Rip's need to wall off his emotions in order to give his nephew and niece everything they needed. I was excited to see how these characters helped each other grow while also managing the loss of their friends and the suddenness of becoming parents. However, very early in the story the author sacrifices the characters development in order to set up a fast paced insta-romance. This resulted in underdeveloped characters, an underdeveloped romance and an underdeveloped story that had a lot of potential that ultimately wasn't explored.

Sadly, this book is not a recommendation from me. There are plenty of enemies to lovers romances that are better than this one. And there are even some where the MCs also deal with being parents, adopting, etc. Off the top of my head, I recommend Wait for It by Mariana Zapata, You and Me by Tal Bauer and Sustained by Emma Chase.
